Calling your sport “The beautiful game” is quite a title to live up to, and not every sport can call themselves the most popular sport on earth. But the game of soccer, or football as the rest of the world calls it, can easily claim both titles.

Soccer is the most popular sport in the world and is played and enjoyed by millions across the planet. Millions of people across the world sit down every day and watch soccer. But what makes soccer the most enjoyed and celebrated sport? It could be the many rivalries, or the traditions or the community unity amongst cities and teams. Close to every town in England is home to some sort of club, which brings the towns together in a close bond. They feel connected by similar culture, politics and lifestyles. These reasons make soccer more than a game. It makes it a sign of tradition, dignity, pride, joy and glory.  Soccer fans share happiness, sadness, wins, loses, bad times and good times together.

Soccer teams also have the largest stadiums in the world like The Rungrado May Day Stadium in Korea, which holds 150,000 people, making it the largest stadium in the world. Stadiums in England often hold around 45,000 people, but games and pubs all around the stadiums are often sold out.

Junior, Kyle Worthy, has become a big soccer fan over the past couple of years. “I never really played soccer, but I really love watching it. It’s always exciting and full of emotion.”

Not only is the sport gaining new fans, but it’s also gaining new players such as Junior, Colin Meldrum who joined the hgih school team his freshman year. “I played as a kid, but then I stopped for a couple of years,” he said. “But  I started really getting into it and decided to start playing. I love it, it’s the best sport in the world.”

“Soccer is popular everywhere in the world except here” Worthy said. “I think people here should start to take into consideration that soccer is the best sport in the world.”
