As finals begin to roll around the corner, some students say they’re starting to panic about how long they can procrastinate and still get a reasonable grade.
Every student has their own studying rituals and tips, some more productive than others, but they all have the same purpose. To reach their goal. Some people say their goal is to get an A, some say it’s just to pass the class. No matter what your goal is, people have several tips that can help everybody.
Dexter High School teachers Ellen Doss and Susan Walter have a few important tricks to studying.
“Note cards and flashcards are really important,” Doss said. “Even copying something down, or getting with a partner to do something like brainstorming essay topics.”
However, Walters’ simpler advice is, “Study. Simply actually study.”
Sophomore student Amelia Sadler’s advice is to “Go through old notes and highlight the important parts, and you should ask the teacher for an outline of the test to avoid studying things not on the test. It is also helpful to have family members quiz you.”
For english related finals, “Spark Notes is a good help, although don’t use as a main source” Sadler says. For math finals, Sadler has different technique, “Doing a lot of practice problems is helpful.”
Joe Wendorf, a junior student, recommends“going through old tests to make sure you can answer all of the questions, since most of the exam questions come from tests. Teachers are also always happy to help if you still have questions.”
Although, “I do not recommend study groups, especially with friends, it is very easy to get sidetracked” Wendorf also says.
