Staff writer Nathan Hoatlin says farewell

I’ve only been here a year, but I could, and want to stay a whole lot longer. I truly do, even though school hasn’t always been my favorite, because of the amazing people and atmosphere of Dexter High School. It truly feels like a home away from home. I love the charisma and attention to detail of Mr. Moran, the passion of his dedicated teachers, and the friendliness and flexibility of all the great staff here. The students are friendly, and mature, with a willingness to work and learn that I have found nowhere else in my travels. Many
issues that other schools face are nonexistent here, such as bullying, hazing, and the whole “clique” issue, because I believe to be of the mature students and professional staff. I was brought to the point of tears watching this great community come together, and stubbornly refuse to be struck down by the tornado that struck in March. It is truly an open and inviting place to learn and grow, yet people will tell you, this is Dexter, and that it’s just who we are. I have been delighted to work with such an exceptional group of people for the past 9 months,
and to have the opportunity to express my voice through such an excellent medium. As odd as it might sound to some, I am really going to miss this place. Having accomplished so much in the only year I’ve been here, I can only imagine what could be if I would have had the opportunity to spend all four here. I will always remember this year as a defining point in my life though, as it was by far the best of four very turbulent and amazing years. That is why I am proud to represent the maroon and gold in the future. I am proud to be a dreadnaught, so proud, to be able to carry the name of such a great school forward with me in the future. It is the one of the greatest gifts god has given me, to be able to jump from such a sturdy
foundation into this life. I will remember this place, for all the magic we have created here in the last year. And so, farewell my friends, I am so proud of all my colleagues, peers, classmates, and teammates for all of our accomplishments this year. It has truly been an honor to work with such an amazing, mature and intelligent group of people. To all of my seniors, I wish you the best of luck in the future; we’ve finally made it to the end of this long road, and it is our turn now. I wish all of you here at this wonderful institution the very best of luck as well, and lastly, I want to thank you, all of you, for opening your arms to a complete
stranger, and getting me involved in a truly magical place. I could not have gotten to where I am, or had a chance to realize my dreams without all of your help. It is with great sadness and great happiness that I now must sign off, having realized said dreams. Farewell my friends, it has been an honor, and a pleasure to learn by all of your sides. Best of luck to all of you.
