The Debate Team, recently qualified for nationals at the national qualifers, on April 28th, taking first place. The team will be going to compete in Indianapolis, Indiana, the week after school gets out.
The debate team advisor, Deborah Marsh said, “We actually lost in the final round of state’s, but we qualified in a separate tournament, for nationals.”
Em winfield and Amelia Sadler have been chosen to represent Dexter at nationals. Both are Veteran debaters.
Dexter has had a record year, according to instructor Mrs. Marsh.
She said, “This is the youngest group of kids I have had be so successful, and the future looks extremely bright. Given that I only had one senior, we have done amazing.” She also pointed out the dedication of the debaters, and the high level of commitment required to participate.
She said, “Our season starts in September, and can end as late as mid-june. We practice two or three days after school, but students also put in lots of time outside of practice, doing research and etc.”
Marsh laughed, at the enormity of the workload placed on Dexter debaters.
“Em Winfield is going to seven weeks of debate camp” Marsh said with a smile. “The dedication of this group of debaters really makes me proud to be their instructor, and we’re going to nationals!” she said excitedly, “and I am excited to see my younger students grow into the sport as well, the future is definitely very bright.”
