Gym teacher Angie Scott wastes no time in raising money.

This weekend starting at 9 a.m marks the start of Relay For Life. Every year this relay is held at the track behind Mill Creek Middle School and goes all night until 9 a.m on Sunday.

Each year Scott and  her team “Arnie’s Army” has been participating. The team was started in honor of her father 5 year ago, “he was diagnosed 5 years ago with cancer and he was supposed to walk the first lap with us but he died about 2 weeks before the relay,” Scott said.

This year in hopes to raise more money the team is selling luminaries to the community.  “The luminaries are to honor people who have or have had cancer and remembering those who died of cancer,” Scott said.

She has raised around $800 thus far from luminaries and hope to raise more. As for purchasing the luminaries they will be available at the relay this weekend.

Scott said, “people can buy them and color them at our tent or we will color them.”

She will be speaking at the presentation at 9 p.m; the presentation educates people about cancer. “They talk about testing, screening, and research,” she said; “it’s a great family event, there’s food and music and also different groups that perform.
