Former heptathlete, coach and trainer Doris Simmons was recently chosen for the head track coaching job after moving to Dexter.

During her college career at the University of Michigan, Simmons competed in the 100 meter hurdle, 200 meter, the high jump, the long jump, the 800 meter, the shot put and the javelin throw.

Simmons has years of experience working with athletes. She was the events and strength and conditioning coach at the University of Michigan.

Also before moving to Dexter, Simmons spent time coaching at a high school in Massachusetts while also being a personal trainer.

“I’m very hands on,” Simmons said.

She also said she hopes to blend her coaching style with the other coaches without “stepping on any toes.”
